WASHINGTON One of the most heavily criticized actions in the aftermath
of the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in March 2003 was the decision, barely
two months later, to disband the Iraqi army, alienating former soldiers
and driving many straight into the ranks of anti-American militant groups.

But excerpts of a new biography of President Bush show him saying that
he initially wanted to maintain the Iraqi army and, more surprising,
that he cannot recall why his administration decided to disband it.

"The policy was to keep the army intact; didn't happen," Bush told
biographer Robert Draper in excerpts published in Sunday's New York Times.

Draper pressed Bush to explain why, if he wanted to maintain the army,
his chief administrator for Iraq, L. Paul Bremer III, issued an order in
May 2003 disbanding the 400,000-strong army without pay.

"Yeah, I can't remember; I'm sure I said, 'This is the policy, what
happened?' " Bush said, adding: "Again, Hadley's got notes on all this
stuff" -- a reference to national security advisor Stephen J. Hadley.

And your point is? He doesn't have to run, except away from any and every
responsibility for the deaths of almost 4000 brave fighting men, and a few
hundred thousand citizens of Iraq, who were better off (at least they were
alive!) under Saddam.
As for greatness, the only thing great about the man is his overblown ego.
And his ignorance.

When will you lefty kooks realize that one of the reasons those brave men
are fighting and dying is so you have the right to talk stupid so often? Do
you think that you could say all of that stupid stuff if the radical Islamic
terrorist ever get to run this country? Those 4000 men were fighting over
four years for you, just as the 6,820 who died in one week on Iwo Jima, or
the 20,000 that died on the first day at Normandy, or the 64,400 that died
in a few weeks in the Philippians before Truman and the since to us the atom
bomb to end the war.

When it come to those fighting for your freedom, where is you perspective?
I just read that more Americans were killed in 2006 by illegal aliens than
were killed in the four years since the war started in Afghanistan and Iraq,
and nearly 44,000 Americans died in auto accidents alone in 2006. Get
real!

How many soldiers need to die in Iraq before you think it's too many,
assuming we make no more progress than we have as of today?

I need a number. How many?

One more will be to many, but if we had taken that position, every time we
needed to protect our freedom since the American Revolution, there would be
no USA. Those of us that volunteered to protect our country, our family and
our friends over the years know we could die in the effort, but surly you
know we had to take that chance. That is why so many in the military have
volunteered to return to the battle fields of Iraq and Afghanistan since
9/11.

Why do you assume there will be no more progress than we have as of today,
when all of the evidence on the ground points to the contrary?

Right. One more will be too many. Based on this, you need to IMMEDIATELY AND
FOREVER stop comparing automobile fatalities to the number of soldiers
killed in the Middle East. It is an irrelevant comparison mentioned only by
the stupidest people imaginable.

You keep deleting all references to all those that died in far greater
numbers in other battles, do you think all those men I mentioned that died
in thje battles of WWII did so for nothing? Are we to believe you think it
makes no difference for people to die in accident or to be murdered in their
own county than to die for ones family friends and country as have thousands
of Americans since 9/11?

Seems to me if one was to die of anything but old age most would prefer it
to be in defense of home and of my county rather than on my way to school or
work. The sad part is they are dying today so the lefty kooks like you can
have the right to attack people in this
country for political gain.

That damn idiot JSB doesn't realize that 4000 is a drop in the bucket. 3000
were killed in one day (9/11) and we're lucky it wasn't 50,000. 59,000+
died in Vietnam. 600,000 died in That Late Unfortunate Incident, as they
call it in Mississippi.

The price of freedom is not only eternal vigilance, it's blood and treasure.

You're absolutely wrong, Mike. Those brave men and women are fighting
and dying because they're good patriotic soldiers who are obeying the
orders given them by the president. Unfortunately the president is
100% wrong and has put them into a war they can't win because of his
poor leadership -- too few troops, no real international cooperation,
no postwar planning, firing the Iraqi military and government, no
efforts to increase the size of the US military in the long term.

Don't change the subject, Mike. GW Bush has strengthened radical
Islam by not only starting the Iraq war but also by blundering it
badly. He fell right into bin Laden's trap. He didn't have to.

They died defending everything good, in a war to defend the US.
Our GIs in Iraq are dying because of GW Bush's vanity.

This is why I'm looking forward to Conan taking over the Tonight

always fails to be funny on his own show.
